This team is comprised of:
- Kasun Rathnayaka
- Thusira Dissanayake
- Ramindu Deshapriya
We are all 2nd year students at the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
Our project is titled 'Mahamevuna - Wireless data transfer device for Add-Drop Education System'. This was a project supposed to go hand-in-hand with the Add-Drop Education System proposed under the Software Design category by team Raaksha. However, the Add-Drop Education System didn't make it to the 2nd round, therefore we are forced to continue developing Mahamevuna as an individual device.
Mahamevuna is primarily targeted at transferring educational data from a central database to rural schools which do not have access to advanced communications infrastructure, namely, the internet. It will be a wireless device which makes use of the Microsoft eBox-3310A-MSJK embedded development device using a specifically developed Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 image as its operating system. It will completely automate the functions of data retrieval and transfer.
Though the related Software Design project has not made it to the 2nd round, we will have do develop most of the software anyway in order to put Mahamevuna to good use.
We hope to complete this project to our fullest ability, and proceed to the next round. Through our efforts we hope to change the face of education in rural areas, bringing the gift of knowledge to those less privileged.
I admire your conception. Anyway I wonder why did you name it as Mahamevuna?
ReplyDeleteDuring the Anuradhapura era of Sri Lanka's history, Mahamevuna Uyana embodied a hub of Sri Lankan philosophy and learning as well as technology. As our project aims to use technology as a means to bring philosophy and learning to those less privileged, we thought of naming it 'Mahamevuna', to honour that great monument to Sri Lanka's past, a time when all those who were willing to learn had access to what they needed at Mahamevuna Uyana.
